Russell,

I take you as someone who has never once taken a serious look at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the issues, parties, and history involved. That is the nicest explanation I can conjure up for such astounding ignorance.

Best,

In response to: The Palin-Edwards comparison

Ian Kinzel [Visitor]
Interesting point, but you leave out one obvious alternative - perhaps the media just didn't care as much about John Edwards.

The Edwards pick was, at the time, the standard Democratic pick: a "moderate" southern white guy, meant to appeal to red state voters (see how THAT worked out!). Also, Edwards was a somewhat familiar name, as he had already run for president that year in the Democratic primaries.

On the other hand, the Palin pick was completely off the wall. About 99% of the country had never heard of her, she governed the second most remote state after Hawaii, and she was about as anti-establishment as you can get. Palin got more stories, and therefore more negative ones as well, just because she made for a more interesting story.

Edwards is too easy a target. Actually there is a comparison that better illustrates the double standard, and that is the comparison of the media effort in vetting Sarah Palin to the media effort in vetting Barack Obama. The media still haven't done an adequate job of vetting Obama, and he has been president for over a year. For example, tell me all you know about the three years Obama spent in NYC while an undergraduate of Columbia University. A reporter interviewed people who were students at Columbia at the same time as Obama and not one remembered him (some remembered George Stephanopoulos, who was a Columbia student at the time - has he recounted all of his Obama memories from that period on ABC?). Bill Ayres was a graduate student at Bank Steet College, adjacent to the Columbia campus while Obama was at Columbia. Any chance that an undergraduate who admitted that he sought out radicals and dissidents during his college years might have met Ayres while at Columbia? A strong case can be made that both Palin and Obama were underqualified for the positions they were seeking, but the media only saw evidence of a problem in the person running for the less important position.

I followed the link here from your column over on FOX - mostly to say that I agree with your points, but also because I find your writing compelling. You have a disciplined and nuanced grasp of the situation and a way to make it engaging and entertaining. Ignore the naysayers; they are to the movement what the iceberg was to the Titanic.

Keep up the good work. I'll certainly be checking back for more.

In response to: Roadmap to Failure, or How Republicans Can Snatch Defeat from the Jaws of Victory in 2010

Republicans CAN win - but only if....

The bulk of the Republican party was not abandoned by the electorate - they abandoned us. By making "compromises" that were actually thinly veiled capitulation to the liberals. That is not bi-partisanship, that is rolling over and playing dead.

Think back - what was the one thing that ignited the Republicans and put them into the hearts and minds of the American people? The Contract With America. It contained the values and direction that the American voters wanted and desperately craved from their government. Then, in just a few short years, the Republican party abandoned it and either became "me too only more so" along with the Democrats, or in many cases unabashedly succeeding in out-Democrating the Democrats.

It is high time the Republicans started nominating people for ALL offices based on their principles and ideals. Electable people that the public craves. The days of putting people up for office because it is "their turn" must come to an abrupt and screeching halt. 2 good examples are Bob Dole and John McCain. It was "their turn". So what! They were NOT electable - so Republicans lost! But hey - at least they got "their turn"....

Look what the Democrats did. It was "Hillary's turn" - but did she win the nomination? No! The Democratic leadership summarily abandoned her with anything other than a little lip service, and put in the man they had been grooming, Obama. And they won.

When are the RNC and the Republican leadership going to clamp down on people in the party like Snowe, Collins, and others - and either get them in line with Republican ideas and ideals, or back candidates who can clobber renegade RINOs like Snowe and Collins, among others, in the primaries and then win elections?

And for cryin’ out loud – stop acting like abortion is the only issue on the table. The anti-abortionists need to vote for the candidate with the best conservative principals, even if one of those principals does not include being rabidly anti-abortion. Vote them in for their other qualities and then work on their abortion issue stand.

As is stands, Americans are sick to death of government that only wants to hear from them on April 15th. BOTH parties are guilty, but Republicans can, and must, reverse that mindset in the hearts of the American people - and then STICK WITH IT.

Does Michael Steele have what it takes to do that job? If he doesn't, once again the Republicans put the wrong person in place. If he does have the mettle, he damned well better start showing it and living it - like yesterday - and prove to the American people that Republicans are on their side!

Jamie Weinstein, your ignorance seems limitless.

You may argue whether the issue of constitutional eligibility to be president of the United States is a "winning issue" or not. But to describe what Farah is fighting for as "conspiracy" shows ignorance in the best scenario.

How can you talk about "conspiracy" when there were some 30 lawsuits all across the country against Obama, the Congress, various secretaries of some states and others? Why didn'y you mention them in your piece? Are all these plaintiffs and lawyers "conspirators?" So why Obama has spent more than 1.7 millions dollars on legal fees paid to score of law firms to defend him against those "baseless" lawsuits?

One of these plaintiffs is presidential candidate Alan Keyes. Is he a "conspirator" too? Have you read his Complaint in the court records? Have you read his Appeal brief?

Please do your homework on this issue before lashing out at the "conpiracists."

Haven't you got better things to write
about? I cannot wait for something
positive to come out of Mr. Farah's
and other's hard work on this issue.
I would hardly put him in the category
of "A liar." His point was is that he is
not being asked anymore to be a guest on
these shows. It is the right thing to do
to pursue this issue. The arrogance of this administration to not provide the
proof. John McCain had to when he was
running for President. I do not believe
Mr. Obama is a citizen of this country.

Jamie, Poor Jamie. Evidently you can't answer Farahs question either! So you decide it is necessary to ridicule him for expecting Congress to do their job. You Sir, are as foolish as anyone else that acts in this manner. There are only three requirements to be president. By Obamas own admission he is not eligible! And, I contend that anyone that does not have the where-with-all to make the supposed representatives do their job, CERTAINLY has NO RIGHTS to diminish those who do!!!!
It is a very simple matter that many of you seem to fear!! If one is to take Obamas writings or his COLB as truth, then he is not eligible to be president. His Father owed allegiance to another country! Did ya know his half-sister Maya also has a COLB? Did ya also know, she was born in Indonesia?

Now, I must ask why you are not complaining that the Senate thought it necessary to confirm Mr. McCains eligibilty but not someone that has already PROVED he is not eligible?
I also find it amusing, that no where in your uninformed RANT, you address Farahs question! Only that he asked it. Why is this a problem?

There is a fool here, Jamie, but it's not Joseph Farah. You have no concept of what the Tea Party movement is all about. Go back to GOP headquarters and try to hash it all out with your buddies there. Good luck with that.

I agree that questioning Obama's country of origin will not be a winning strategy for the Republicans, but mainly because there are so many Americans who think it is a rude question or because the liberal press (and you) are willing to take Obama's word for his citizenship and, finally, because there seems (amazingly) no one with standing to challenge him in court to prove his citizenship. I am curious that you think "birthers" are lunatics, however, and wonder where your conclusive proof of Obama's citizenship is. The only thing I have seen is the form he put out, which is not an original birth certificate and thus meaningless. What other proof is there? Why won't Obama put this issue to rest by producing irrefutable documents? Why are all his academic records sealed too? Is it because of poor grades or because they show he got scholarships as a foreigner? WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE PRESS that they don't care about his secrecy on these matters? What about the fact that we now know he lies regularly and boldly? Doesn't that make you rethink your assumption that he is telling the truth about his citizenship? No Republican would ever be allowed to fluff off the media this way. My husband and I are both loyal Republicans with multiple graduate degrees (including law degrees) and we'd like some answers to these questions. Where's your proof that he is a citizen? Please publish it so that this issue is resolved.
