The Palin-Edwards comparison
February 19th, 2010It's no secret that I am not Sarah Palin's biggest fan. Nonetheless, there is no question that Palin is often treated unfairly by the media.
Mainstream media figures and White House officials attack the former Alaskan governor with regularity, most recently lampooning her for writing speech notes on the palm of her hand for her address to the Tea Party convention in Nashville, Tennessee. While lambasting Palin for this seemingly innocuous occurrence, these Palin impalers conveniently forgot that President Obama uses a teleprompter for even his most routine orations.
But no comparison best illustrates the double standard the media has with Palin than how they treated another former vice-presidential nominee. You may have heard of him. His name is John Edwards.
Check out my article Palin vs. Edwards, a case study in media bias in the New York Daily News.
Rubio kills at CPAC
February 19th, 2010Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio was the first speaker at this year’s Conservative Political Action Committee that got under way yesterday morning in Washington, D.C. Before Rubio’s speech, I had heard of the legend of Marco Rubio. But I had never heard him speak in person. Now I have. He’s the real deal.
I know there is an over tendency to see each new exciting conservative as a potential Republican presidential candidate, but Rubio could easily be a VP candidate in 2012. Not only is he someone who can excite the American people and make them believe in American greatness again, but he is also from Florida, a key battleground state. Add in that he could also help win hispanic's back to the Republican party as a Cuban-American and, well, seeing him on the Republican 2012 ticket no longer seems so far fetched.
